About

Augustine College is, first and foremost, a fellowship of Christian intellectuals passionate about the enjoyment and transmission of truth and beauty.  Our mission is to offer a community that explores, week-by-week, year-by-year, the intellectual basis of the Christian faith.

We do this in two important ways.

First, we believe in a “classical” model of training or education, which at its heart is the exposure to primary sources in history, literature, art, science, and philosophy so that students are forced to come to terms with authors and ideas who have stood the test of time and critique.

Second, we believe in training students to be intellectually durable through scenes of instruction that are challenging, prompt true reflection and stimulate robust growth.  Looking for thorough feedback on your writing?  Look no further.  Seeking honest engagement with your speaking style or argumentation?  You have found the right place.

At Augustine College, we believe all readers ought to read in community, and that all good arguments deserve to be tested.  We can operate out of this belief only because we begin first with a united first principle: Faith Seeking Understanding.  Put another way, we can seek and know Truth because it is first revealed to us by God.

This fellowship or community of Christian intellectuals engages in the following Institutional endeavours:

8-month Program

Our flagship program, first inaugurated in 1997, is two semesters of intensive reading alongside Augustine College professors.  We study the Ancient World in the Fall term (Sept-Dec) and the Modern World in the Winter term (Jan-Apr).  This program is divided into 5 major courses (Philosophy, Literature, History, Science, and Scriptures), and prepares students for life as a Christian in the public square.  The highlight of this program is the individual attention each student receives, and we cap our program at 20 students to ensure our tutorial model is sustainable.

This program is ideal for applicants who have recently finished High School and are seeking to ground themselves in foundational Christian thought before pursuing next steps, or individuals who are taking a break from their profession or seeking to soak in timeless truth in a community setting before launching into a new chapter of life.

Tuition: $9000 CAD for full 8-month program

Seasonal Conferences

Our seasonal conferences offer a range of community events designed to speak to the continuing educational needs of Christians in a variety of professions, from medicine and law to tech and education.  How do the foundational truths of the past shape our approach to cultural questions in our day?  How ought a doctor or lawyer or teacher to practice their craft as a Christian?  Join Augustine College for these intensive week or weekend conferences as you link arms with likeminded Christians in your occupation.  Allow us to refresh you with our hospitality and timely intellectual interventions, all the while fulfilling your CPD/EDI needs.

Weekly Dialogues

Our weekly Dialogues offer the Ottawa region a sustained, intimate setting for engagement with some of the best that has been said or written, all wrapped in our signature hospitality.  Come read classics like C.S. Lewis’s Mere Christianity, Augustine’s Confessions, or hear a range of thoughtful speakers debate one another in real-time in benevolent discourse.  Our ecumenical commitment means you are sure to encounter fresh perspectives in a respectful context.  So, if you have been itching for a regular place to kick up your feet, eat food, laugh, and read books alongside other Christians, look no further!
