Admissions
Students admitted to Augustine College are expected to function at
a university level. Considerable weight is given to the student's
demonstrated verbal and written skills.
Requirements
- Completed Application Form.
- Two letters of recommendation for the student (one personal
and one academic)
- The student's report of accomplishments (e.g., transcripts)
- A sample of the student's writing (e.g., 750-word essay
on one of three selected topics - see Application Form)
- A non-refundable application fee of $50 in the form of
a cheque made out to "Augustine College"
- After receiving the above information, the student will be contacted
for an academic and social interview (to be conducted by
telephone where applicants are unable to visit the College)
Application Deadline
Class size is limited to twenty-five students. Applications for the
following year are normally considered beginning November 1: please
inform us if you would like to have your application considered sooner.
There is no application deadline; however, preference is given to
applications received by February 15.
Fees and Residence
Tuition fees are competitive with other institutions providing a
comparable calibre of teaching, with faculty-student ratios of 1:25
or better. We reserve $500 of every full fee received for a bursary
fund. Scholarships are awarded very occasionally for exceptional achievement.
Tuition fees for 2008-09 are $8,000 Canadian. Students must also
cover the cost of required books. There is no cost for photocopies
provided by faculty. Tuition payments must be made in 3 instalments:
$1000 upon acceptance and $3500 on the first day of classes each semester.
Housing needs of students are met by space at the College and additional
rental accommodation in the area. The residences are not co-ed and
out-of-town students are expected to live in residence. Each student
is provided with a bed and mattress, dresser, desk with light, and
chair. Students are self-supervising with the support of a designated
Resident Advisor and are responsible for their own cooking in a fully-equipped
kitchen. Every effort is made to provide a supportive community for
the students.
Residence costs are subject to local market conditions from year
to year as the College does not own property. We are also required
to pay for housing year-round: the residence fees are for eight months,
but they include the rental cost for the full year, which is typical
of all student housing. Residence fees for 2008-09 are $2,500 Canadian
per semester, which includes utilities, local phone service, long-distance
to Canada, the U.S., and 26 other countries, cordless phone, high-speed
internet access at the College and the residences, free use of a laser
printer, copier, and scanner at the College, and a community meal
twice a week. Students must cover their remaining food expenses. Residence
fees are due the first day of classes each semester, preferably along
with the tuition payments.
Students from outside Canada may make initial payments in foreign
funds using approximate amounts, but the final payment must be in
Canadian funds -- for example, by money order -- to ensure exact payment.
