Hi! My name is Landon Coleman. I recently received a BA in English Literature from St. Francis Xavier University and was part of the 2008 Augustine College class. I love playing, listening and talking about music and I also enjoy reading. In the fall I will be traveling to various locations in Canada to make presentations introducing Augustine College to interested people.
Here is a list of the groups I am hoping to speak to and what I might talk about with them.

CHURCH GROUPS
Are members of your church aware of the challenges to faith that students encounter at secular universities (e.g., scientific materialism, moral relativism, atheism, Marxism, etc.)?
I would be glad to speak to Youth Ministers, Youth Groups, parents, select groups of students, or individuals.
People you know who might be interested in Augustine College are young people in the church who:
- are asking difficult questions about Christianity
- are avid readers
- are interested in pursuing a degree in the humanities or sciences
TEACHERS AND COUNSELORS (high schools)
Do teachers in your area know of young Christians who:
- are critically minded and hungry to learn
- are interested in the deeper issues of life
- are avid readers
Augustine College has a lot to offer them. I would be glad to speak to Guidance Counselors, advanced English or Religious Studies classes, select groups of students, or individuals.
HOME SCHOOL GROUPS
Do you know of home-schooling parents who are concerned about the shift from home-school to university? Because of its community focus, Augustine College has been a safe and supportive transition-space for dozens of Christian young adults. The entire program is a natural extension of the classical principles behind many home-school curricula and the College actively prepares students to face university life (both academic and social) as confident, articulate, and devout Christians.
COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY CHRISTIAN GROUPS
Are university students learning wisdom or simply accumulating knowledge? Have the numerous options in the university calendar left room for the essentials? Does the average university professor even believe in ‘essentials’?
On account of these problems, Augustine College has had students come to study:
- after completing (or partly completing) an undergraduate degree elsewhere
- as a break year during medical school
Here are some of the things that may interest the teachers, ministers, parents, and students you know and that I would be prepared to speak about, talking from my own experience as a graduate of Augustine College.
Enriching your faith
Students often graduate high school without a full understanding of the intellectual riches of the Christian tradition, the history of ideas and how it might relate to their faith. It is not just that academic learning can be reconciled to faith: it is that understanding deepens and enriches your relationship with God.
Preparation for university
Augustine College was started by a group of university professors who came to realize that students were often unprepared for the ideas presented to them at university and left vulnerable to the misinformation so prevalent there. The College was designed to enable young Christians – strengthened by the resources of the history of Western thought – to enter university and challenge the ideas of their classmates and even their professors.
Deepening your faith
Graduates of Augustine College often talk about how their studies at the College and their life in a Christian community profoundly deepened their faith.
Preparing for work & life
What job should I choose? Where do I go from here? A good start to answering those questions is thinking about basic issues of life that can be learned from philosophy, science, art, literature, history, and the Scriptures. Learn about work by learning about life.
Filling the gaps in university
Students with diplomas and degrees have come to Augustine College and had the gaps in their education filled in. Believe it or not, there are a lot of key ideas not taught at universities.
Challenging the culture
The ideas that pervade popular culture need to be challenged. How can Christians do that? Augustine College is a place to explore this issue and learn how to confront the prevailing culture.
