Visiting Artist

John Terpstra | In the World: Walking the Tightrope

Each year Augustine College invites an artist to spend time with the students and the wider community. The artist holds public events - a concert, an exhibition, a reading, or performance. The Augustine College Visiting Artist for 2005-2006 is John Terpstra.

Mr. Terpstra was the winner of the CBC Radio Literary Competition for Poetry in 1992 and the Bressani Prize for poetry in 1988 and was shortlisted for the Governor General's Literary Award in 2004. He has published seven books of poetry, including Disarmament (2003), Devil's Punch Bowl (1998), and The Church Not Made with Hands (1997) and is this year Writer-in-Residence at McMaster University in Hamilton.

Please join us for a reading and public lecture:

"In the World: Walking the Tightrope of a Calling in the Arts."

Mr. Terpstra will read from his work and speak on how a writer, rooted in the Christian faith and living very much in the day-to-day world, understands his literary vocation.
